Our Founder’s Story

By Jeff, Founder of Hot Brass

Hot Brass was never just about products. It was about taking back space—physically, mentally, and culturally.

I spent over 30 years serving this nation—as a U.S. Army officer, federal strategist, and builder of national programs. I authored initiatives like the Army Advantage Fund and The Genesis Post Project—ideas designed to modernize how we recruit, integrate, and empower Americans through defense and service.

But institutions don’t welcome disruption. I was told I was “too bold.” “Too different.” Even “dangerous.” So I stopped waiting for permission—and I built Hot Brass.

This brand didn’t start with a corporate launch or investor dollars. It started with belief. My own, and that of three people who stood beside me when Hot Brass was just an idea. Matt, Julie, and Tom have been with me from the beginning—building the vision, shaping the mission, and bringing this brand to life one deliberate step at a time. Together, we’ve created something that didn’t exist before—a brand rooted in boldness, community, and capability.

Hot Brass is more than gear. It’s a declaration. It’s a uniform made of confidence, not camo.

Every round, every stitch, and every box is designed with intention—for the people who’ve been underserved, overlooked, or underestimated in the shooting world. Especially women. Especially people who want more than just tactical performance—they want to feel seen, in control, and connected to something greater.

As a husband of 36 years and father to four daughters, I didn’t build this brand just to compete—I built it to lead with purpose. Hot Brass reflects everything I’ve ever stood for: personal agency, decentralized strength, and the courage to step forward even when others say, “not yet.”

This team, this brand, and this mission aren’t here to blend in.
We’re here to disrupt.

“There is definitely a difference in recoil, much smoother! Cindy fired 100 rounds of Hot Brass 9mm and 70 rounds of Blazer (very clean ammo) though my Sig. Then looked at the buildup in each of the firearms. Hot Brass ammo is much cleaner. I just used an oil cloth to remove the build up at the end of the barrel. I usually need a brass scraper to get the end of the barrel cleaned. Very Nice Ammo! Well done!”

“I put rounds of the newly minted 124 grain Hot Brass low recoil ammo down range yesterday through 8 different auto pistols, using 10 different test subjects. Control ammo was a mix of FMJ 9mm standard load Winchester (USA) and Sellier & Bellot (Czech.), 124 grain and 115 grain respectively. I personally shot several boxes myself, testing for accuracy and performance, comparing each mag against control ammo. Test subjects ranged in age from 18 to 55 years old. Experience levels ranged from first time at the range (two subjects) to the NRA chief training counselor for 30 years, as well as two competitive shooters. I blind loaded their mags and asked them to comment about their observations after shooting the entire mag. The only information I gave them about the ammo is that it was not yet released, currently being tested, that was it. All but one subject correctly identified lower recoil in the correct stacked sequence, even one of the two brand new shooters. The guy who didn't recognize the difference was one of the new shooters (18 year old). I loaded the first half of his mag with low and second with standard. Shooting 4" steel at 30 yards he got 5/6 hits with low recoil, 0/6 with standard snap. I'm very pleased to report there were ZERO misfires/ malfunctions the entire day. My chief training counselor and I both limp wristed with Hollywood dumbass grip (low, loose hold on grip), still ZERO failures. Very pleased.;
